About Me
I can remember building and painting model kits ever since I was knee high to a grass hopper. It was the usual planes, boats and tanks, but what really caught my eye were the Aurora monster kits of the 1970's.
I eventually realised that I wasn't really on to a good thing when the cat used to jump up on the shelves and knock the models off. Well just stick the bits back on I hear you say. I would have if I managed to get to them before the dog did, she did like to chew! Well this kind of put me off the hobby for some time.
Fast forward 20 years
I got back into modelling in 1995 and started to sculpt a few things in 1998. I went to a local evening class to learn the basics of working with clay. I didn't want to make little cats & dogs and used to attract some very strange looks when I turned up with some demonic creature.
Sculpting is just something that I decided I wanted to do. I've had no formal training in art or anything like that. I watched a friend for an afternoon, bought some books, invested a lot of time and these are the results. I've learnt a lot but also have a lot to learn.
I try to make each new sculpt better in some way than the previous one. The subjects that I choose are ones that are interesting to me. Even the commision work has to be something that I like as I find it very difficult to sculpt a subject that I have no interest in.
I've had to learn a lot of new things, such as how the fire the kiln and plaster mould making, it's been a very steep learning curve to get here.
I think by now that you may have gathered that my interest is in those wonderful creatures from film and fantasy. It's always the creatures in a film that catch my eye.
So there you have it, me in a nut shell.
